Adobe Pumpkin Patch

Adobe Pumpkin Patch is a great place for the kids. There are hay rides, a sunflower maze, crafts, corn stalk houses and so much more.

So many places to sit and watch children playing and enjoying the fall season.

Little darlins' all bundled up.

Flowers and pumpkins galore.

Plenty of photo ops.

We had a great Halloween season.

Taking A Break

I know I don't have that many followers, but I thought I would make the announcement that I am taking a break from the blog for a while. All is great in our world and I would love to share so many things with you, like the beautiful hand made dresses from Sharon, the great camping trip to the Hendy Woods with my parents, and our recent visit with Chris & Leo. However, I'm on information overload and I am losing valuable mindshare! So I am taking a break to reevaluate things, but I'll be back when I feel organized and refreshed. Hope your summer is a good one!

My Dream Garden

We came across my dream garden on a Sunday drive several weekends ago. While wandering into a coffee shop, I noticed this blue statue pointing me through the gates of this hidden garden.

The garden isn't huge, but it is big enough to grow plenty of flowers and vegetables. There are little paths winding through all the different sections and this creates so much interest and mystery. You just can't tell what is going to come next. There are berries, vegetables, flowers, grapes. Even though I spent a good 20 minutes wandering through (Aron was waiting in the car for me to come back with coffee) I know I wasn't able to take it all in.

Lettuces, a berry patch, sunflowers and some herbs.

Lovely nasturtiums.

Aron's favorite, and the only garden request he has, bright red rhubarb. Or so I thought, Grandma says it is swiss chard. Very pretty!

These red cabbages are amazing. I would guess they are about 18" across.

Some papery tomatillos.

Gardens of Mendocino

Without a doubt, Mendocino is one of my favorite destinations. I love walking the streets of this old town to admire the picturesque houses, shop at unique stores, and take in the cool air.

The town is situated on a headland and has some very dramatic ocean overlooks.

There are almost always flowers blooming here, but last week was a very good time to view the gardens of Mendo in full bloom.

Flowers, flowers, everywhere!

Little treasures hidden among the flowers too.

Even tiny plants growing in old, weathered stumps.

A lovely garden path requires a second look.

There are old treasures tucked in here too.

Ok, here is where you get a taste of a Mendo garden with some of the towns' personality. Yes, that stump is topped with a clay mushroom cap. Yes, tie dye is still very cool here too.

How pretty is this bench tucked in the flowers beside this pottery shed? I'm definitely planting nasturtiums next year.

Camping In Gualala

We had another great weekend of summer camping. This time we travelled to Gualala, a little town on the coast. The campground is at the base of a large redwood forest.

Some camp spots have a great view of the river. It stayed so shaded in the mornings that we all ended up sleeping in until almost 9AM both mornings!

This is Cathedral Tree. It looked to me like several trees cropped up in a circle and grew together.

Aron thought the campground felt like summer camp. The place was packed, and there were tons of kids. The kids gathered together to play on the swings, slide and play ping pong. They have bocce ball and horseshoes too.

Sadie and Aron splashed in the wide and shallow river.

Sunset was beautiful. The light filtered in so bright and yellow through the branches of the enormous redwoods.

The best thing about camping is making a fire and hanging out as a family.

Morton's Warm Springs and Funky Photos

We had a great day today at Morton's Warm Springs. The weather was warm, and the water was perfect. Sadie is such a water girl! She played in the pools the entire time we were there except for when she stopped to each lunch.

Side note - Did I say Sadie? If she were here she would correct me and say, "I'm Winnie the Pooh." At least she isn't calling herself Shrek, like last week. Lately we are all cartoon characters. This week I am Rabbit, Aron is Tigger, and Emma is Piglet. This lasts ALL DAY. In fact, Pooh got hurt on the playground on Monday and she was weeping and calling for me, but yelling, "Rabbit!"

Back to our day...I thought my pictures were looking strange through the viewfinder, and even though I reset the settings, something was off. I got some great shots of the kids in these beautiful blue pools with the palm trees behind them, but the photos turned out all washed out.

Kind of a cool, reverse effect though. I guess sometimes you just have to embrace mistakes. See, I meant to do that.
